Message from the Chief

Chief Luvera 1.JPG

On behalf of the members of the City of Burlington Police Department I would like to welcome you to our community. Burlington is the hub of the stunning Skagit Valley.

Incorporated in 1902 and built around the crossing of two major railways and a booming timber industry, Burlington is rich in history. That history can be seen around our city and is still celebrated today.

Though the railroad still crosses in Burlington to this day, we now have the major intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 20. With this ease of access, it is easy to see why so many businesses, retail shops and community members converge in Burlington. Our city offers a strong mix of retail and recreation with more than 800 businesses, numerous parks and countless community events. The members of your police department work diligently to enhance the quality of life in our community, making it a better place to live, shop, visit and experience all that Burlington has to offer.

With a resting population of approximately 9,000 and a daytime population of 45,000-60,000, we recognize that our mission cannot be achieved without partnerships and commitments by residents, guests and visitors. I challenge each member of our community to always practice good personal safety habits, avoid careless practices and behavior, and become involved by promptly reporting any suspicious activity.

Community safety, security and the prevention of crime is a shared responsibility. Our members are seeking opportunities in which we can better serve, inform and protect our community. We firmly believe the best protection against crime is an aware, informed, and alert community working in partnership with police officers.

If you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance, please contact us at 360-755-0921.

Sincerely, Michael Luvera
