Police Officer – Entry Level
The City of Burlington is currently accepting applications for Police Officer – Entry Level to fill current vacant positions. Click here for more information.
To apply for an Entry Level position, you must contact Public Safety Testing. Following the Public Safety Testing process, you may be contacted by the City of Burlington. Upon notification by the Burlington Civil Service Examiner, you will be asked to fill out and return the attached Police Officer application. Do not fill out the application form until notified of instructions by the Civil Service Examiner.
Further Testing Requirements include:
- Oral Interview(s)
- Extensive Background Investigation
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Evaluation
- Medical Examination
- Drug Testing
- Physical Agility Testing at CJTC
Conditional Employment candidates successfully pass:
- WA State Criminal Justice Training Center Basic Law Enforcement Academy held in Burien or Spokane (approximately eighteen weeks)
- Field Training Program (approximately twelve weeks)
- Probationary Period (twelve months from date of Academy graduation)
Police Officer – Lateral with $15k - $30k Incentive

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
Applicants must: be citizens of the United States or a lawful permanent resident; be a high school graduate or equivalent; be no less than twenty one (21) years of age; possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license; possess minimum of twenty four (24) months full time job experience after certification by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (or CJTC recognized certification) as a sworn, paid Municipal, County, State or Federal Police Officer within the last thirty six (36) months; possess experience performing patrol, traffic or investigation; must be current Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy graduate or eligible to attend the Washington State's Basic Law Enforcement Training Equivalency Academy. Military police experience does not qualify.

Police Officer – BLEA Certified
The City of Burlington is currently accepting applications for Police Officer - BLEA Certified to fill current vacant positions. Contact the Burlington Civil Service Examiner at 360-755-2338 to apply and for a Personal History Information (PHI) form.
Applicants must: be citizens of the United States or a lawful permanent resident; be a high school graduate or equivalent; be no less than twenty one (21) years of age; possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license; and have successfully completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WACJTC) Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
Applications are available by clicking: Police Officer - BLEA Certified. Applicants will complete the same application as Police Officer - Lateral.
