Storm Drain Utility

Building a StormSewer - 1912Drainage Problems

Burlington has experienced chronic drainage problems in many areas. The Storm Drain Utility Fund was founded in 1997 by the Burlington City Council.

This utility generates revenue which allows city staff to plan for and improve stormwater system function in these areas to alleviate some of these problems.

Water TributaryWater Quality Studies

Burlington also finances water quality studies from this fund.

The Skagit Conservation District trains volunteers to collect water samples at various locations on Gages Slough. These samples are sent to a laboratory for analysis.

We use the lab results to help us determine the best type of water quality improvements to help clean the stormwater entering Gages Slough and other tributaries.
