History of Greenhills Memorial Cemetery
Around the turn of the 19th century, the Maccabee Lodge organized the Burlington cemetery. Later, management was taken over by the Ladies of the Maccabees.
The Burlington Cemetery Association incorporated in 1924 and continued with its care and maintenance. The city acquired the cemetery at the request of the Burlington Cemetery Association board. It was the association's desire that the city assume responsibility of the care, development, maintenance and operation of the cemetery, which contains approximately 15 acres.
The transfer to the city was made August 14, 1954.
