Asking for a Public Defense Attorney
If you cannot pay for an attorney you can ask to have one appointed. There are three ways to ask for an attorney:
- On your court date go to the Burlington Municipal Court at 311 Cedar Street in Burlington. This office is open from 8:30 to 11:30 and 1:30 to 4:30 only on court days. Court days are the 1st, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of every month. You do not need an appointment. There is no charge for this.
- Before your court date you may call the City of Burlington Public Defense Program assistant at 360-755-2387 Monday 8:00am to 12:00pm, Tuesday & Thursday 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Wednesday 8:00am to 1:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 11:00am to hear about ways to be screened before your court date. You can also leave a message at this number and the Public Defense Program Assistant will call you back

Burlington Municipal Court
The Burlington Municipal Court is located at 311 Cedar Street, Burlington WA 98233. The phone number for the court clerk is 360-755-0492. The fax number is 360-755-2391.
The Clerk’s office is open Monday through Friday 8:30 Am to 4:30 PM and closed 12:00 to 1 for lunch. Court sessions are held the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Interpreter matters are heard at 8:30 AM. Hearings on traffic infractions begin at 3:00 PM. Pre-trials, arraignments and trial setting hearings are scheduled throughout the day. Trials are heard on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, generally once per month. Trials may be set on different days if a court holiday interrupts the schedule. See a court calendar.

In Custody Information
To see if someone is held in the Skagit County Jail you can go to the jail website and click on the tab called “Inmate Roster and Booking Report”.
Hearings for defendants held in the Skagit County Jail are held every week day at 8:30 AM in Skagit County District Courtroom number one located at 600 South Third Street, Mount Vernon.
