Microsoft Imagine Academy
Computer Skills and Internet E-learning Courses 

Welcome to the Washington State Library Microsoft Imagine  Academy through the Burlington Public Library. The Imagine  Academy offers technology courses on three levels - basic digital literacy skills, Microsoft Office Skills and advanced skills for Microsoft professional certification. Access to the Microsoft Imagine Academy is provided through a collaboration between the Burlington Public Library, Microsoft, the Washington State Library, Office of Secretary of State and the Washington State Legislature.  

This service offers free, online, self-paced courses for learning Microsoft software.(e.g. Word, Excel) critical for the workplace and for more effective home use.

To access the Imagine Academy you need a Microsoft ID (formerly known as Windows Live ID) and an enrollment code.

Important !  Any email address ending with Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, MSN.com and Live.com is a Microsoft account.
If you don't have a Microsoft email account, you may use your existing email account (regardless of provider) as Microsoft account for the Imagine Academy.
This program works best using Internet Explorer as your browser.                            

Create a Microsoft ID Account:

  • Go to https://signup.live.com and click Sign up. 
    You may enter your current email address OR create a new Microsoft email account if you want to keep a separate account.
  • Complete the fields to create your Live ID/Microsoft Account.
  • Go back to your email account and verify your email.              

Returning Users 


Click the Sign In button on the right of the home page.

Enter with your Microsoft Accountand password.

From My courses, click the course you would like to start or resume.

Enrollment Code Activation

  • Check with library staff to for an enrollment code to activate your account.  
  • Go to learner site https://imagineacademy.microsoft.com,
  • Click Sign In.  (In most cases, you will want to select Microsoft account)
  • Enter your email and password when prompted.
  • Enter the enrollment code provided by Library staff. 
  • Enter your email address.
  • Check the box to accept the User Agreement & Click Continue.
  • Fill out the profile information.
  • Click save.
  • When you have created an Microsoft account, sign in to the Imagine Academy. 
  • https://imagineacademy.microsoft.com (Click on Browse on the left hand corner of the page to view classes available for you.) 
  • Use the Search Box or Browse Tab to find and add courses. Once you've added a course, you can access it by clicking on My Courses and then clicking the hyperlinked name of the course.
